ENGAGEMENTS
Aflac
Enterprise Agile Coach and Trainer (2019-Present). Developed and delivered multiple cohort-based enablement programs for leadership and other key roles – Product Owners and Scrum Masters. The objectives of the programs were simple — grow the capabilities and confidence of the organization to adapt and continuously improve. The results have gone beyond that, where the organization has made the shift from a primarily bureaucratic culture to an emergent culture that supports continuous learning and improvement. Beyond the enablement programs, I frequently coach teams, support strategic improvements, and mentor leaders, scrum masters, product owners, and coaches.
Enterprise Agile Coach (2019). Worked with leadership to create enterprise-wide agility transformation plans that shifted the agile adoption from 40% of teams to 90% of teams. Worked with leadership to adjust planning modes from large, upfront planning to adopt quarterly planning. Created and executed a twelve-week Agile Enablement Program that resulted in over sixty confident and capable Scrum Master and Product Owner team members. Authored and facilitated the roll-out of an updated enterprise SDLC with agility and DevOps at its core.
Pax8
via an alliance with FiveWhyz
Enterprise Lean/Agile Coach and Trainer – Product Organization Transformation (2022). Pax8 is a cloud-based marketplace that is transitioning from a startup to becoming an enterprise solution. Its challenges aren’t with culture but with scaling quickly and shifting from a sales-based prioritization of work to strategic product management backlogs. I worked with leadership to establish an approach to make both disruptive and incremental organizational changes. Conducted organizational assessments using Behavioral Markers, interviews, and event observations. We implemented a cross-functional process improvement team, established cadenced-based learning opportunities, and worked with leadership on adapting practices to increase strategic engagement. Supported the introduction of product managers and coached them through a transition from roles such as analysts to fulfilling the activities of the product owner role.
Centene Corporation
via an alliance with Sketch Development Services
Enterprise Lean/Agile Coach and Trainer – Agile Transformation Assessment (2022). Through acquisition and other organizational changes, the leadership is looking for a greater level of predictability and faster time to market. Like many organizations, there are also technology modernization efforts underway at Save-A-Lot. The organization sought an understanding and recommendations that would bring them closer to their desired agility outcomes. Conducted a comprehensive leadership and team-level assessment using interviews and the Waypntr assessment (https://www.waypointr.com) tool and observed leadership and team events. Created and recommended coaching and training plans for leaders and team members, mentored coaches, and supported the kickoff of training.
Centene Corporation
via an alliance with Sketch Development Services
Enterprise Lean/Agile Coach and Trainer – Lean Portfolio Management Assessment (2023). The organization was undergoing a lot of change, and given the size of the IT organization, the complexities of making investments and keeping up with business demands slowed progress and created waste due to redundant work and collaboration challenges across complex initiatives. Leadership lacked visibility and, therefore, was unable to prioritize and track investments across the pillars of operation.
Working as an enterprise lean/agile coach, I conducted a thorough assessment using 1:1 conversations, group interviews, and event observations and reviewed existing governance and process documents. Identified opportunities to quickly address collaboration challenges, conducted team workshops to improve alignment, drive cross-team collaboration, and encourage experiments around process changes. Created comprehensive recommendations and facilitated the development of a governance and lean portfolio management operating model roadmap. Recommendations were incorporated into organizational structure and process changes.
Enterprise Lean/Agile Coach and Trainer – Social Health Bridge Team Kickoff (2019). Social Health Bridge is a startup-like organization created by Centene that is dedicated to supporting the improvement of health and social services in underserved communities or communities in need. The digital solutions being created are to help coordinate the efforts of community centers and other non-governmental organizations (NGOs). I initially supported the discovery and research aspects of solutions required, helped onboard key team members, and helped establish agility-based practices.
Enterprise Lean/Agile Coach and Trainer – Product Management Continuous Improvement (2019). Working across a large initiative made up of multiple teams, they were struggling to gain alignment and gain traction. Based on engaging the teams and team members, I came up with simple iterative improvements that built on each other, which would improve transparency and process ownership and focus the team on the flow of high-value needs. Rolled out practice-based training as well as mentored product owners.
Helped to facilitate and coach leaders of a next-generation, cloud-native utilization and care management solution. Activities include conducting product discovery workshops, coaching and mentoring of teams and leaders as the initiative scales, and help brainstorm new ideas and problems to solve.
